What is the Indian Pacific train’s route?
Spanning Australia from East to West, the Indian Pacific travels from Sydney to Perth (and vice versa), with several notable stops along the route. You can either take the entire route across the country, or either embark or finish your journey at Adelaide, either travelling between Adelaide and Sydney, or Adelaide and Perth.
Along the route, you can disembark for off-train experiences at several key stops: Kalgoorlie, Cook, Barossa Valley, Adelaide, Broken Hill and the Blue Mountains.
How long is the trip on the Indian Pacific train?
The length of your journey aboard the Indian Pacific trains depends on which route you would like to do. The longest of the Indian Pacific’s routes is from Perth to Sydney, which takes 5 days. Doing the route in reverse, from Sydney to Perth, takes four days, as the off-train excursions vary.
To ride the Indian Pacific train from Adelaide to Perth (or vice versa) the journey is three days, and so is the journey from Adelaide to Sydney. The shortest journey you can take aboard the Indian Pacific is the route from Sydney to Adelaide, taking just two days.
What are the Indian Pacific cabins like?
On board the Indian Pacific, there is a choice of several different cabin types, either Gold or Platinum Service. Gold Service rooms are the most popular, and they offer everything you’d need for a comfortable and pleasant journey. Gold Premium Cabins offer the same accommodation, but offer guests access to an exclusive lounge and dining carriage. There are also a small number of Platinum Suites on board, which are spacious and luxurious, as well as including lounge access and first choice of off-train experiences.
Gold Twin Cabins
Gold Twin Cabins are the most popular option, with a spacious sitting area by day, comfortable bunks by night and an en suite bathroom.
Gold Single Cabins
Gold Single Cabins are perfect for solo travellers, with a comfortable seating area that is converted into a bed each night. Each cabin has its own sink and vanity, with toilets and showers at the end of the carriage.
Gold Suites
Gold Suites offer access to the exclusive Outback Explorer Lounge, and are equipped with a ¾ double bed, and an additional fold down bunk. The spacious seating area is separate and the cabins are en suite.
Gold Premium
Upgrading your Gold Twin Cabin or Gold Suite or Premium gives you access to the Gold Premium Lounge and the Gold Premium Dining carriage and you can enjoy more choice of off-train experiences.
Platinum Suites
The Platinum Suites offer an elevated experience. The en suite cabins are particularly spacious, with a comfortable seating area by day and either a double or twin beds by night. With windows on both sides of the carriage, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery. Platinum travellers are offered an additional luggage allowance, get exclusive access to the Platinum Club, get first choice of off-train experiences and more.
What is included on the Indian Pacific train?
Included in your journey aboard the Indian Pacific train are all of your meals, local wines and spirits and a variety of off-train experiences.
The onboard restaurant, Queen Adelaide, offers a fine-dining menu that takes inspiration from your surroundings as you travel through different regions.
There is also a choice of unique off-train excursions throughout your journey. A Barossa Valley wine and dining experience, a tour of the blue mountains, a painting class at Broken Hill and a visit to the historic railway crossing of Cook are just a handful of the activities on offer.
There is limited WiFi on board the train, within the Outback Explorer Lounges and the Platinum Club carriages. However, in remote locations WiFi may not be available, as it relies on mobile network coverage.
