On arrival into Mfuwe Airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred by 4×4 vehicle to Kafunta River Lodge, located on the banks of the Luangwa River. You may spot wildlife along the way, so keep your cameras ready.
Depending on your arrival time, you may be able to enjoy an afternoon safari to seek out the park’s amazing array of wildlife.
Day 2 & 3 – Kafunta River Lodge
Each day, enjoy a morning game drive or walking safari to discover the game-rich Mfuwe area of the park. Look out for the big cats, notably leopard, for which this park is famous, as well as herds of buffalo, antelope as well as endemic species such as Thorneycroft’s Giraffe.
On returning to the lodge there will be a buffet-style lunch waiting, followed by time to relax at the pool, book a spa treatment or simply spot wildlife from your viewing deck. Meet later for afternoon tea, before heading out once again into the park for an afternoon game drive.
Day 4 – Head Further Into South Luangwa
This morning there is another chance to explore the Mfuwe area on a game drive before brunch back at the lodge. Then set off on a two hour game drive and transfer, heading further south through remote wilderness to a less-visited part of South Luangwa, and your home for the next two nights.
Three Rivers Camp is located at the confluence of the Luangwa, Kapamba and Lusangazi Rivers, in a remoter area of South Luangwa, and offers tented rooms with the unique addition of a private viewing deck where you can choose to seep out at night.
After settling in, you can either join the afternoon game drive, or enjoy sunset cocktail from the privacy of your deck.
Day 5 – Three Rivers Camp
An early continental breakfast is served by the fireplace before heading out on your morning activity, which can be either a walk, a game drive, or a combination of both. Safari walks are where Luangwa really excels, and they give a unique perspective as you track game and learn about the smaller creatures that can be missed on game drives.
Back at the lodge it is time for lunch followed by some time to relax, before an afternoon game drive. Which provides further opportunities to spot some of the big cats, herds of buffalo, or maybe those species of zebra and giraffe only found here.
This evening you can decide to sleep in your tented room or have a night under the stars on your sleep-out platform.
Day 6 – Safari Drive To Mfuwe
Depending on your flight departure today, there may be time for one last game drive before heading to Mfuwe Airport with the option to stop back at Kafunta River Lodge for refreshments, or Tribal Textiles for some souvenir shopping.
