Your Southern African safari begins today in Zambia on arrival into Mfuwe airport. You will be met and driven to Flatdogs Camp, just outside the main gate to South Luangwa National Park.
Over the next two days you can enjoy morning and afternoon game activities offered by your camp. South Luangwa excels at walking safaris with highly professional guides to make the most of your ‘walk on the wild side’.
This is one of the best places in Africa to view leopards along with prides of lion, herds of buffalo and even some endemic species such as Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s Wildebeest. You may be able to track these animals on foot, or sit back and relax from the loftier position of a game vehicle.
Each day enjoy the bush setting of your lodge and evening drinks around the camp fire where you can recount wildlife encounters of the day.
Day 4 & 5 – Visit Victoria Falls
This morning your guide will drive you back to Mfuwe in time for your flight to Livingstone airport, gateway to the Victoria Falls. From here it is a 35 minute transfer to Waterberry Lodge, located on the banks of the Zambezi River.
The following day, head to Mosi O Tunya National Park which protects the Zambian side of Victoria Falls to enjoy a guided tour; walk the clifftop trails, taking in the various vantage point of this awe-inspiring natural wonder and cross the exhilarating Knife-Edge Bridge with its 100m drop into the chasm.
During low water season (typically October-November) it is also possible to head down to the ‘Boiling Pot’ at the base of the waterfall and from here gazing up to the rim, you appreciate the sheer magnitude of Victoria Falls.
In addition to the Falls, there are also sunset river cruises and village walks, or you can simply relax in your tranquil riverside location.
Day 6 & 7 – Chobe National Park
Today, you will head to Chobe National park in Botswana, a journey that will only take around 90 minutes from Victoria Falls, taking you over the impressive Kazungula Bridge near the point where the borders of Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia meet.
On arrival at Chobe Safari Lodge, settle in for your two night stay and then enjoy a sunset river cruise and game drives into Chobe National Park.
The riverside area of the park acts as a magnet for wildlife who come to quench their thirst but they must remain ever wary of lions and other predators stalking them close by. Elephants are found here in especially large numbers, as are buffalo, zebra and wildebeest to name a few.
Day 8 to 10 – Okavango Delta
Transfer to Kasane Airport and bid farewell to Chobe National Park as you fly by light aircraft to the magical Okavango Delta, which for many is the jewel in Botswana’s crown. Here you will enjoy three nights luxury tented accommodation at Kadizora Camp.
During the flood season the Okavango Delta becomes an intricate web of rivers and streams fanning out across the Kalahari Desert. Your time here will be spent seeking out the wildlife without the crowds found elsewhere in Africa.
An iconic experience in the delta is a makoro trip where you glide through the shallow waterways in your traditional wood-carved canoe, looking out for creatures great and small. Bush walks, game drives and boat cruises further compliment the experience to give a good chance of seeing elephants, buffalos and water adapted species such as lechwe.
Day 11 – Farewell from Botswana
This morning there may be time for one more game activity and breakfast, before being returned to the airstrip for your light aircraft departure to Maun, and then a connecting flight onwards.
