Today is a full day of sightseeing in Bangkok. Visit Wat Pho, the city’s oldest temple, and see the impressive Reclining Buddha, the largest in Thailand. Continue to the Grand Palace, the former royal residence, with its intricate architecture and the revered Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you may choose to join an optional boat trip along the canals (klongs), passing traditional stilted houses and seeing daily life on the water.

Today is free to explore Bangkok at your own pace. Browse the flower market at Pak Klong Talad or enjoy the street food and shops in Chinatown. You may also choose to join an optional excursion to Ayutthaya, the former capital of Thailand, with a visit to Bang Pa Summer Palace along the way. Explore ancient temples and monasteries before returning to Bangkok by river cruise with lunch on board. This afternoon, another option is to visit Jim Thompson’s House, a traditional Thai residence showcasing Asian art.

Leave Bangkok this morning and travel to Kanchanaburi. Visit the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and the War Cemetery, the resting place of over 6,000 prisoners of war. After lunch, see the Death Railway and board a local train, crossing wooden viaducts with views of the river. End the day at the famous Bridge over the River Kwai before continuing to your nearby hotel for dinner.

Travel north to Chiang Rai today. Along the way, stop at Khaw Phayao Lake, the largest freshwater lake in northern Thailand.
