Rovos Rail offers a five star experience on rails, capturing the elegance and atmosphere of a bygone era as you travel through Africa’s diverse landscapes. The classic wood panelled coaches offer period charm, accompanied by attentive and friendly service.
The observation car is located at the end of the train and offers a relaxing place to enjoy the views from its enlarged windows and unique open-air balcony. In the lounge, deep sofas and wingback chairs offer a comfortable place to catch up with fellow guests over a drink and enjoy afternoon tea.
Meals are served in one seating and are an occasion in their own right with silver service and fine cuisine, accompanied by outstanding South African wines. During the day the dress code is smart-casual, whilst dinner is the time to dress to impress with more formal attire.
Day 1 - Pretoria
This morning check in at the Rovos Rail station where you can relax in the lounge before commencing your luxury rail journey. Travel south east through the gold-rich mining areas of Gauteng whilst you get accustomed with your elegant surroundings and meet your fellow guests.
Later, enjoy lunch as the majestic Drakensberg Mountains come into view, before the train climbs to Majuba Hill at an elevation of over 2,000 metres. Pass through the landscape of Kwazulu-Natal and towns such as Newcastle with its large domed Hindu temple and Glencoe, site of the first battle of the Anglo Boer war.
Day 2 - Game Reserve & Battlefields
This morning enjoy tea, coffee and pastries before your early morning game drive. In the malaria free Nambiti Game Reserve, you will have the opportunity to observe the big 5 as well as other species of game including cheetah, giraffe, hippo, hyena and zebra.
