Popular depots for collecting motorhomes are Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Denver, with each offering a range of suppliers and motorhome sizes. Each depot allows easy access to the surrounding scenic highways and National Parks.
Generally the roads in this region are wide, traffic free, and designed for larger vehicles, so after a short introduction at the depot, most travellers find motorhome driving surprisingly straightforward.
If you wish to stay in some of the most popular National Parks, such as The Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce Canyon, it is wise to book early, especially in peak times. Outside of these hotspots, many scenic campgrounds operate on a first-come basis, allowing you to be more flexible in your holiday route.
Most National Parks do have designated RV campgrounds, however, spaces are always limited, and additional facilities can be minimal. There are often private campgrounds just outside the major parks that offer a greater choice of facilities if required. However, staying inside the parks enables you to enjoy sunrise and sunset without crowds or extra driving.
In the summer the southern regions of Canyon Country an become very hot, but it is a good time to tour around Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.
In the winter, snow and colder conditions make motorhome holidays in the northern areas of the region less desirable, however, the desert areas of Arizona and Nevada are quite pleasant.
Spring and Autumn offer the most comfortable temperatures and quieter campgrounds making it a great time to tour all the states of Canyon Country.
