Las Vegas & Canyon Country Road Trips

The Southwest offers wide, well-maintained highways linking remarkable National Parks, whilst further north in the region the roads wind up into the Rocky Mountains providing superb views at almost every corner. Las Vegas and the Canyon Country are perfect for an American Road Trip.

Where is the best place to start my road trip?

Most travellers begin their road trips from Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City or Denver, as these airports offer the best flight connections to the UK and the rest of the USA. Each city works as a gateway to different landscapes and experiences, so you may choose to fly into one and out of another.

How long do I need to a road trip in this region?

Between ten and fourteen days is ideal for a driving loop through the highlights of this area, such as Grand Canyon, Zion Bryce Canyon and Arches National Parks. Shorter one-week holidays are also possible, but you will cover less distance and have to be selective in where you stop. A three week fly drive holiday will allow you to combine the Grand Canyon, Utah’s Mighty 5, and Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.

What type of car should I hire for a road trip?

In general a mid-size or full-size Sedan type car should suffice for most road trips, depending on the size of your party and how much luggage you require. However, many people prefer the comfort of an SUV for some of the longer scenic drives. You can choose your vehicle from our selection of cars, or request something special like a convertible.

When is the best time of year for a road trip in this region?

Whilst summer has the most sunshine, it also brings hot temperatures to the deserts of the Arizona and Nevada. This time of year can be perfect for exploring the Rocky Mountains around Colorado, although visitor numbers will also be higher.

Winter brings snow to the high elevations of Colorado and even down as far as the Grand Canyon, however, the consistent sunshine in Arizona and Nevada make driving conditions great for exploring,

In general Spring and Autumn provide some of the best conditions for a road trip. Temperatures remain pleasant throughout, crowds are not at their peak, and conditions are perfect for getting out the car for a hike. The Autumn colours in Colorado rival the more famous ‘Fall Colours’ in New England.
