Coast Pacific Train

A journey of breathtaking natural beauty, the Coastal Pacific railway travels past ordered vineyards to a wild and rugged coast, with the rolling waves of the Pacific Ocean on one side and Kaikoura Mountains on the other.

How long does the Coastal Pacific take?

The rail journey from Christchurch to Picton takes 5 hours 40 minutes, leaving at 07:00 and arriving at 12:40. In reverse, the Picton to Christchurch train is timetabled to take 10 minutes longer, departing at 13:40 and arriving at 19:30. *

Where does the Coastal Pacific stop?

Southbound, the Coastal Pacific train stops at Blenheim, Kaikoura and Rangiora, before arriving into Christchurch.

Blenheim sits in the heart of the Marlborough wine region, famous for its Sauvignon Blanc. You can go whale watching in Kaikoura, making the coastal town a popular overnight excursion taking the Coastal Pacific from Christchurch.

How much is the Coastal Pacific?

The Christchurch to Picton train fare starts at £105. Coastal Pacific and InterIslander Ferry combination tickets are also available from £149, an easy and enjoyable way to travel between New Zealand’s North and South Islands.
