    Sarawak is a state in Malaysian Borneo, located in the northwest of the island of Borneo. It is Malaysia’s largest state, bordered by Sabah to the northeast, the Kalimantan region of Indonesia to the south, and the South China Sea to the west. The state capital, Kuching, is the main gateway for visitors.

    What is the best way to get to Sarawak?

    Most travellers arrive by air into Kuching International Airport (KCH), which has direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and other Malaysian cities. Other airports in Sarawak include Miri Airport (MYY), a key hub for access to Gunung Mulu National Park, and Sibu Airport (SBW). Overland travel from the neighbouring Sabah region is also possible.

    When is the best time to visit Sarawak?

    Generally it is recommended to visit Sarawak during the dry season, which runs from March to October, when there is less rainfall, making outdoor activities like hiking and wildlife spotting easier. The rainy season (November to February) brings heavier showers, but it’s still possible to explore, especially if you are visiting caves or cultural sites.

    Sarawak is home to some of Borneo’s most spectacular national parks:

In the wild, Batang Ai National Park offers the best chance to spot orangutans, though sightings are not guaranteed.
