What is a Borneo Multi Centre Holiday?
A Borneo multi centre holiday combines two or more destinations in one trip. This could be a multi centre within Borneo, combining the wildlife-rich rainforests with the soft-sandy beaches, or it could combine the natural wonders of Borneo with the ultra-modern cityscapes of Singapore.
Why are Borneo Multi Centre holidays popular?
Borneo multi centre holidays are popular because they offer the perfect blend of of exploration and relaxation in one holiday. With easy flight connections to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bali, as well as a good domestic flight network, it is simple to create a holiday itinerary that seamlessly combines, wildlife, cities and beaches in just just one trip.
What are the most popular Borneo multi centre holidays?
WIthin Borneo it is very popular to combine the rainforests of Sepilok and the Kinabatangan River, with a beach stay at one of the luxury beach resorts near Kota Kinabalu. This could be on the mainland at a resort such as the Shangri-la Rasa Ria, or an island just offshore such as Gaya Island Resort.
In addition to staying within the island of Borneo, it is also possible to combine Borneo with either the mainland peninsula of Malaysia or other destinations such as SIngapore or Bali. Because it is not possible to fly direct to Borneo from the UK, most holidays to Borneo will route through Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. The opportunity for making this a stopover, or even a longer part of the holiday is a good way of creating a multi centre holiday. Singapore offers the bright lights of the modern city, Kuala Lumpur has the Petronas Towers and is the gateway to the other resorts such as Penang and Langkawi. As an alternative some people choose to visit the neighbouring island of Bali as it is so close.
How long should I allow for a Borneo multi centre holiday?
To see the highlights of Borneo and perhaps one other city, we would recommend between 10 and 14 days to combine the rainforest experience with one of Borneo’s beaches, and then add a few more days if you wish to enjoy a city stopover as well.
Can I include both Malaysian and Indonesian Borneo in a single trip?
Whilst it may be physically possible to combine these two parts of the same island, we don’t recommend it, as transport connections between the two sides is limited. Most visitors prefer to focus on Malaysian Borneo, and concentrate their time in the regions of Sabah and Sarawak. They also often add the Indonesian island of Bali to complete their holiday.
