Welcome to Moreton Island
To add a little nature to a city-hopping holiday or a couple of nights’ break from driving on an East Coast Australia road trip, look no further than Moreton Island (Mulgumpin). A ferry ride from Brisbane, it is the world’s third largest sand island, with towering dunes, secluded bays, azure lagoons and volcanic rock pools to explore.
Tangalooma Island Resort
There’s a minimum two night stay (three nights during holiday periods) at Tangalooma Island Resort, but once you arrive you’ll want more!
Things to do at Tangalooma and on Moreton Island include:
- Wild dolphin feeding – meet Tangalooma’s famous family of bottlenose dolphins that swim into shore every evening at sunset
- Tangalooma wrecks – snap the essential Instagram shot, or explore the wrecks at night on an illuminate boat tour
- Whale watching – from the cliffs of Cape Moreton on the northern tip of the island, past which playful humpback whales pass, from June to October
And that’s not to mention snorkelling, kayaking, sand tobogganing and quad biking… after which you’ll definitely deserve a treatment at the Massage Hut!
Getting to Tangalooma
There are four catamaran departures a day from Brisbane’s Holt Street Wharf direct to Tangalooma Jetty on Moreton Island, the journey typically taking around 75 minutes. Holt Street Wharf is around a 20 minute taxi ride from the city centre.
