Halong Bay Holidays 2025 & 2026
Even if it wasn’t, as legend has is, formed from the teeth of dragons, there is something undeniably magical about Halong Bay. Covering 43,400 hectares, the UNESCO-listed natural wonder comprises over 1,600 islands and islets, majestically rising from the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Tonkin.
A mature, limestone karst landscape, there are arches, caves and hidden beaches to discover, as well as floating fishing villages between the towering rock formations.
Where is Halong Bay?
Off the coast of northeast Vietnam, Halong Bay is approximately 160 km from Hanoi, just over a two hour drive on the new expressway.
For a unique experience, it is also possible to fly to Halong Bay in a seaplane, giving you a fabulous bird’s eye view of the jungle-clad islets and meandering boats.
Halong Bay Cruises
Most Halong Bay cruise ships are modelled on Chinese junks, with battened sails and traditional décor, but with spacious cabins and modern comforts. Make sure to ask for a morning call, so not to miss the sunrise, a soul soothing experience.
If you have the time, a two night Halong Bay cruise comes highly recommended, to explore the islands out of reach of those on a one night cruise, and to have more time for swimming and kayaking.
