Toronto & The 2026 Football World Cup

We can help you plan and book your holiday to Toronto and Ontario for the Football World Cup in June and July 2026.

What is the best way to get to Toronto?

Both British Airways and and Air Canada fly direct from London Heathrow to Toronto, with Air Transat offering a direct flight from London Gatwick. It is also possible to fly to Toronto via US cities such as New York and Chicago. Lots of other cities in Canada and the USA have regular domestic flights in and out of Toronto.

Toronto is also on the Canadian VIA Rail train network, connecting it with other Canadian cities like Vancouver and Montreal. Niagara Falls is also a short train journey from Toronto.

Which Toronto Stadium is being used for the World Cup?

The BMO Field, home of Toronto FC, will host five matches in the 2026 Football World Cup. The BMO Field has a capacity for 45,000 spectators and will host one of the Canadian National Team’s group matches.

What is the best way to get to the BMO Field Stadium in Toronto?

The BMO Field Stadium is located at 170, Princes’ Boulevard, just off the Lake Shore Boulevard in Toronto. Whilst it is possible to drive or take a taxi to the stadium from downtown, it is preferable to use public transport. Depending on your hotel location in Downtown Toronto, you could choose to use either the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) or Go Train. The TTC is a mixture of trams and buses around the city, and both will get you to the BMO Stadium. The Lakeshore West route on the Go Train stops at Exhibition Station, across the street from the stadium.

How do I get tickets for the 2026 Football World Cup?

General ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup will be released exclusively via FIFA, and should only be purchased via official channels. Freedom Destinations cannot include match day tickets in holiday packages.

Where is best place to stay in Philadelphia for the 2026 Football World Cup?

It is anticipated that most football fans will choose to stay in Downtown Toronto for the 2026 Football World Cup. Being close to the public transport network will help with access to the BMO stadium. Hotels such as the Courtyard Downtown and the Holiday Inn Downtown are good options. The Fairmont Royal York offers a five-star option.

What is the expected weather in Toronto throughout the tournament?

Toronto in June and July typically experiences warm weather, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 27°C (60°F to 80°F). It is advisable to pack layers in case of changeable weather conditions.

What else can I do in Toronto away from the football?

People visiting Toronto often head to the CN Tower, Toronto’s most recognisable building, for city views from the top of the 533 metre tall tower. From here you can also see the vast stretch of water that is Lake Ontario. The lake’s shores gives visitors to Toronto the chance to visit the beaches and parks along the shoreline during their stay. The Harbourfront Centre offers boat tours around the lake and becomes a live music venue in the evening.

Perhaps the most well-known attraction in the area is just outside of Toronto. Niagara Falls are a short train journey or drive around the lake shore from Toronto. You can join a day tour to Niagara Falls or stay overnight to enjoy the falls lit up in the dark.

What other World Cup host cities combine well with Toronto?

Although Vancouver is the only other Canadian city to host matches at the 2026 World Cup, it is on the West Coast, so quite some distance from Toronto (although there is a train and regular flights that connect the two). The closest host cities are all in America, with Boston, New York and Philadelphia on the East Coast.
